This is likely our last day at the current site, tomorrow we will head closer to Valencia so that we can fit in some sightseeing. We spied a campsite in the hills outside that is supposed to be a good area for cycling, so there will be some of that too!
So today was a last chance to enjoy the hills here, so whilst Mel did some work, I went off for a bit of the Rough Stuff. Following a mountain bike trail, partially on the route of yesterday’s walk, I skirted along the foothills. There was a longer option, but not marked for cycling that would have taken me onto the main ridge, but I decided that would turn into a walk and a carry of the bike. I was having plenty of fun peddling so decided to stick to the easier route. This took me closer of Peñiscola, which we hadn’t explored much when we were camped there before new year, so a good opportunity to go look around the town. You can just about make out the old town in the picture.
The old town is quite charming, houses tightly clustered on a small hill next or the harbour, lots of cobbled streets. I ended up enjoying a beer and plate of calamari next to the harbour, which was very agreeable! 32 miles in all, almost exclusively off road. Just lovely!
