Today was Mel’s Birthday, and I’m just enough of a gentleman to know its not polite to mention a ladies age. We have had a very pleasant and laid back day, a stroll along the beach into Marbella this morning, a distance of about 5 miles. We celebrated arrival with a couple of glasses of wine and tapas whilst people watching those walking along the sea front. We then moved on in the direction of Puerto Banús, but got sidetracked by lunch. Three courses including possibly the largest salad starter known to human kind. These plates are about 10″ across – not so much a salad as a market garden! Mel had Sea Bass and I had a steak, both cooked to perfection and extremely enjoyable, and not hindered at all by the bottle of Champagne.
After suitable relaxation we walked on further before finding a bar to have one last drink and watch the sun set over Gibraltar. We are now close enough that we can see the mountains of North Africa as well. We walked half way back as the light faded from the sky, then opted for a taxi as it was starting to cool down a little more than the light clothing was comfortable for.
Back in time to make some phone calls home, and enjoy a nice cup of tea and some chocolate truffles, which was about all the space we had left after that gargantuan lunch.
What a perfect way to spend a birthday!
That has to have been the most perfect day – Happy Birthday Mel. I will also be spending my birthday away and I think I am going to follow your example!
