Safer walking up this, it’s very icy!
4.25 miles and 700m. I might get short changed on the climb, I think there is only another 100m to go. Bit windy but still pretty warm.
Meet Esther, Marion and Francois – I did! They walked up the same way I have come. Now about 500m up, so around half way. 1700m here. Cracking view.
Climb now starting to pick up, maybe 10% average here. Given that this is probably how the piste bashers get up, it could get a lot steeper!
Starting to gain some height now. Fairly gentle grade and he surface has improved somewhat.
No warm up here, straight onto a service track for the ski lifts, boulders everywhere and the back wheel is already spinning.

St-Jean-Pied-de-Port was actually a pretty nice looking place. A castle the top of the hill (now more of a grand house), and several narrow, winding streets with old, overhanging buildings, many dated from the 16th-18th century.
