Nice Cheese Grommit

Another chance to get away from normality, whatever that is. This time, although the intended destination was the Lake District, we find ourselves just East in the Yorkshire Dales. A nice 11 mile walk today, up one fell and down another. Hawes, the town we are in, gets a visit from the Tour de France next weekend on its first… Read more »

The Wanderers Return, but with a Broken Spoke

Ok, I didn’t quite give up after the last message. I was determined to get to the summit of the Plateau de Beille, and despite the fact that every time I went over the brow of shill or curve of a bend, the track looked like it still wanted more out of me. Quite odd cycling in the snow, not loosing traction at all unless I go onto the compacted snow where a vehicle has been. Anyway, nice to get a different view and be off the Tarmac. I think my legs are just about done for the climbing today. Time to head back down and have a nice cup of coffee!

Don’t You Just Love Those Hairpin Bends?

Interesting on the way up, a blast on the way back down. At least there are guard rails! Up to 1430m now, just went through a north facing stretch that was like a freezer, but in the sunshine its lovely. The sun is burning the snow off the south facing slopes quickly, raising the snow line by a couple of… Read more »

2 Miles and 200m of Climb, in the Cycle Tracks of the Gods

Steady but relentless climb. We are the red diamond on the map, having started by the chateau to the left of Pech. Going by the roll call of riders painted onto the road, it looks like this route was used on the TdF this year. Must look that up later, unless someone can put a link in the comments. Suns… Read more »
