By heck there’s a lot of sand, and we haven’t got to the big ones yet (the largest in Europe apparently!)
Royan to Le Verdon-sur-Mer Ferry
After a typically slow start this morning, we decided to leave the île-d’Oléron and head towards Bordeaux. Before we get there we have the opportunity to see one of the less populated parts of France, the Gironde peninsula. Land of pine forests, sand dunes and beaches.

A Lap of the île-D’Oléron by Bike
A cracker of a day today, blue skies and a few wispy clouds, temperature about 17 degrees and lovely sitting in the sun or peddling along. After a slow start we got out about 11:30, getting back about 5pm after a 40 mile lap of the island. Legs feel like they’ve done it for sure, and Mel put in a sterling performance considering the lack of practice. Only mild complaints about saddle/arse compatibility!

First Equipment Failure
Today we had our first technical difficulty – the fresh water inlet has a lockable cap on it (much like old car filler caps), and
