A slow day, wandering along the coast, a visit to Scotland’s only perfumery and a nice bit of coffee and cake in the attached cafe. Fleeting glimpses of the more colourful community of Gairloch but we are pressed for time for a walk so head for Melvaig and a walk along the coast towards the Rubha Reidh lighthouse with views across to Skye. Make it back to the van just before dark and then into the Melvaig Inn for a meal and some beers. Finally, a proper pub in Scotland! What used to be an old chapel, now a cozy nook and some great music, the walls liked with stacks of vinyl that the landlord grumpily obliges to play when you choose seething less to his liking. It was strangely reminiscent of being back in the Three Horseshoes of old!
The landlord was happy for us to stay in the carpark overnight so we could roll out slightly worse for wear and fall blissfully to sleep.
Sadly the Melvaig Inn has now closed and been converted to a private house. Please note that the private access track beyond Melvaig is for residents of the lighthouse ONLY and there is no vehicle access for visitors. Visitors must park at Melvaig and continue on foot.
