A Sea of Plastic

If you want to know where your tomatoes come from, this is probably it. We are now in the Cabo de Gata park, but on the drive into Andalucia we started to pass the greenhouses they use in these parts to give them year round growing. Miles upon miles of plastic – not proper greenhouses, it looks more like a refugee city. I quipped to Mel it was like a cross between Glastonbury Festival and one of those sci-fi films where the earth has been completely enveloped in buildings to control the climate.

This picture doesn’t quite do it justice, but the valley floors are wall to wall carpeted in these greenhouses. Tomatoes seemed to be the principle crop, although seeing inside is not easy.
