Gdansk – The City

Just back from a weekend away with Dave & Mark for a little rest, relaxation, and unhealthy living. A return visit to Gdansk for the boys, but this was my first, and very enjoyable too.

The old town is very compact, a combination of elegant streets with Dutch and Baroque influences, and waterfront. It’s entirely pedestrianised, so a joy to wander around, although there were some building sites to skirt around in part – they seem to still be sprucing parts of it up, it looks like if was badly destroyed during the way but the old charm is still there.

There’s that wonderful European café culture to enjoy of course, and the weather was good throughout, a little cloud from time to time but warm and pleasant and just enough sunshine to top up the tan without turning us into two legged Golonka’s.
