These pics are from a couple of days ago in Biarritz, I didn’t have the chance to send them then. It shows workmen slotting a nearly complete escalator through the doorway of a department store using forklift trucks. There were three separate escalators to go in, this being the first. They had taken a bit of the hand rail and glass off to clear the lintel, and it just fitted through. Once they had the top end in the doorway, they put it onto dollys so that as the back end was pushed, the front could be steered by hand into the store. How they then got it into the stairwell we couldn’t see. But an impressive operation nonetheless!
