This was so immediately helpful!!! Thank you so much
Thanks a lot for your tips! My issue got resolved after unpairing my keyboard with my older mac.
It worked!!! That was driving me mad. Thanks for taking the time to publish a solution.
The reset worked instantly. THANK YOU.
Thanks!!! I was going mad.
Hello, as Joe said in Jan ’21, thanks for documenting this. Holding down the power button on my keyboard and touchpad meant that I could pair them again with my MacBook Pro after upgrading to 11.4. I didn’t see the detail about keeping the power button pressed in while pairing took place on the other sites that I looked at.
Success! My attempts had failed because the Mac would “find” the keyboard but lose it before I could act. Your wise counsel–to keep holding the power button–was the perfect solution.
Thank you for your generous sharing of helping us tame the beast of technology. Much appreciated.
I have a really old Magic Keyboard which still works really well – until it randomly disconnects for reasons I cannot understand. It’s visible in the Bluetooth devices but Mac cannot connect to it. That was until now.
Nobody ever told about holding down the power button and after doing so the keyboard connected immediately. This saved so much time and will also save in the future. Thank you so much Dave!

THANK YOU!!!
Holding the power button continuously through pairing worked.
It worked, thanks for the article – and just to confirm for everyone else : “the trick is to continually HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON.”
Thanks a lot, holding the Power Button worked! I thought I have to by a new one.
This worked perfectly for me … had been struggling for almost a week but got resolved in under 3 mins after using this article!
Wow, can’t believe that worked so quickly!
With big sur, using the option shift key combo gives a reset bluetooth option in the dropdown after clicking on the bluetooth icon. No restart necessary.
After plugging in my USB devices, it took only one click to get my OLD, wonderful Apple wireless keyboard (the white one) to connect in one second. It had been a struggle to reconnect to my 2014 Mac Mini after restart for months. WooHoo!
Hi, my problem is that i’ m unable to write the PIN from the keyboard so no way to link it… Even trying from another keyboard plugged on the machine (usb connection) doesn’t help me. How can i restore my wireless keyboard. Is a A1213 model. Thx a lot.
Tried everything then saw the suggestion about rechargeable batteries. Replaced a couple of duracells and problem solved. Thanks!
After 15 minutes or so trying to connect my wireless keyboard, this really good and short instruction solved it. Thank you so much, thank you Internet. Cheers
