We’ve holed up in Cong for a couple of days. It was one of the main locations for filming the 1952 film ‘The Quiet Man’, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. You can watch it in one of several locations around the village on a daily basis should you wish.
As is the way with many tourist locations, the pubs and shops don’t need to try very hard. But we did manage to find one good restaurant who pull out the stops to accommodate us, and we had a very enjoyable meal. My Lamb Hotpot certainly ticked the boxes.
It appears we’ve developed a problem with our heater in the van, meaning we might be struggling for hot water and heating. We are fine if on a campsite, but wildcamping might be out for the time being, unless we can get some parts of someone to look at it. We’ll probably head for Dublin over the next couple of days to see if we can find a dealer to take a look.
Not a problem to the schedule, as we were starting to head back south and east to avoid the worst of the wet weather and be ready for the journey home.
