Hadrian’s Wall Day 1 – Bowness on Solway to Carlisle

Our first day on the wall, although the wall is not very much in evidence in these parts. You have to take the word of the maps and guide books to know that there was ever a wall here, but the shoreline of the Solway Firth has its own appeal.

Due to logistics and consideration for our lack of fitness, some of us only walked to Burgh-by-Sands (pronounced ‘Bruff’) whilst others marched on into Carlisle. But a good start, 10 miles under the belt.
